Golden Angel Food Cake

Submitted by: Gayle Sphire

Source: Grandma Henrietta

Ingredients
6 eggs, separated
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 cup flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup cold water

Instructions
Separate 6 eggs. Beat yolks with electric mixer. Add water and beat. Add sugar gradually and then vanilla. Fold in flour, baking powder and salt gradually. Beat egg whites and cream of tartar until it peaks. Fold into other mixture. Bake in ungreased angel food pan at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Let cool slightly before removing from pan.

Note: This may also be made in 13x9 cake pan but reduce cooking time checking until no longer wet in the middle.

Recipe Story
I believe Grandma Henrietta actually got this from her mother but not positive. This is a great recipe because normally angel food cake uses 12 egg whites and the yolks are wasted. This is a sweet and yummy cake. Sometimes I put Cream Cheese icing on top.
